Trevor Bond, a consultant working within New Zealand schools, discusses one of his passions 'questioning'. He sees questioning as being central to thinking and learning. Trevor believes that we must go beyond just talking to our students about 'open' and 'closed' questions. He states that a good question is the one that gives you the answer.
Noeline Wright from Waikato University talks about helping students develop the ability to critique. In this talk from ULearn11 Noeline describes supporting students to examine ideas from a range of points of view, and challenges us as educators to do the same. When we examine a site, do we get behind the site, behind the text? Do we ask what is important? Why should I believe it? Is there another view?
Sharon Friesen talks about changes needed in education, focusing on the work students do. She suggests we need to prepare a thinking generation who ask questions of the world, requiring teachers to be guides, mentors, facilitators and designers.
